January, much like the months of September and May, is a time for new beginnings. The weather may not be all that different from December, but the thrill of the new year always brings a sense of freshness to a person and helps set the tone for the upcoming year. In 2019, we are geared and ready to support the arts more than ever - and what better way to do that than in a creative place like Victoria?

The music of Tom Waits

On January 26th, the Roxy Theatre will be celebrating the ballads, gospel-infused blues, and jazzy sounds of Tom Waits. The moody and raspy melodies recreated by the band ‘The Beautiful Maladies’ will bring back your 70s anarchy and nostalgia. This show has sold out each of the eight times it has performed, so be sure not to miss it!

The Royal Theatre

This month, the beloved Royal Theatre of Victoria has got quite the lineup in terms of wide-reaching entertainment. The theatre, which celebrates its 106th birthday this year, will play host to exciting upcoming shows all month long such as ‘The King and I’, ‘Snowed In Comedy Tour’, ‘The Music of Star Wars’, and the band ‘Mother Mother’.

Craigdarroch Castle

Admit it - since you were a kid, you’ve always dreamed of living in a castle at one point or another. In Victoria, they have two main castles - Hatley Castle and the Craigdarroch Castle. Both were inhabited by wealthy families in the late 1800s, and continue to dazzle today. This new year, Craigdarroch castle is hosting an event by the UVIC Voice Ensemble, titled A Talent to Amuse. Live out your dreams of experiencing the royal treatment, as well as musical excellence, all at the same time! The presentation is part of a celebration of the work of the English playwright, composer, director, actor, and singer Noël Coward, who was in close correspondence with the granddaughter of the castle’s original builder, Robert Dunsmuir.

At the end of the day, it’s always nice to come back to a place that feels like a home away from home - this is what we hope to achieve at the Quality Inn Waddling Dog Victoria. All of the aforementioned attractions are within a 25 minute drive, and on top of that, our Tudor-style rooms are pet-friendly, and have all the amenities you could need in order to make the most of your trip.
